Update: 6:30 p.m. EST - The lockdown is lifted; no weapon was located and the suspect evaded the hordes of police … so, yeah.
Thankfully, there were no victims, either.

Looks like an AK-style rifle with an optic or scope - potentially a reflex or holographic sight based on the size.

I know it's essentially illegal to defend yourself in deep-blue Massachusetts, but stay frosty out there.

People are urged to stay inside until further notice.
'Police from UMass Lowell and the city of Lowell were alerted this afternoon to reports of a male on South Campus carrying an object suspected of being a firearm. A campus-wide shelter in place order has been issued as officers attempt to find this individual,' a UMass Lowell spokesperson said.
Massachusetts State Police are assisting in the campus search.
No idea what that was doing out there or if it was a real gun, but I can safely say that it didn't look like an umbrella.
