So this is a real thing that's happening.

The new battleships will be known as the Trump-class, of course.

What else would you expect?

From Breitbart:

The last U.S. battleship to complete initial construction was the Iowa-class USS Missouri in 1944, which was decommissioned in 1992.

'We had big battleships. These are bigger … They'll be 100 times the force, the power, and there's never been anything like these ships,' he added. 'These have been under design consideration for a long time, and it started with me in my first term.'

They definitely sound very Trump.

Trump stated that the ships will be armed with the 'highest level' guns and missiles, and will feature 'many hypersonic weapons, state-of-the-art electric rail guns, and even the high-powered lasers that you've been starting to read about.'

'They'll also carry the nuclear-armed sea-launched cruise missiles currently under development, which will be instituted pretty quickly, but they're under development, and they've proven to be extremely lethal,' he added.

Hey, hey, now … you don't want to give away all the info, Mr. President!

Many people are wondering why we are bringing back "big battleships." There's a reason the last one was built in 1944!

Large, heavily-armored ships were great for most of human history when naval battles were up-close and personal. But planes, and then guided missiles, made bulky ships a liability. The Japs sank eight U.S. battleships at Pearl Harbor; America returned the favor by sinking all three of the Japanese super-battleships.

Navies quickly shifted to carrier-fleet mentalities, which use planes to extend their striking distance. Carriers are protected by an assortment of nimble destroyers and hidden submarines.

There's now serious questions about whether that arrangement is obsolete. How does a carrier fleet stop, say, a swarm of a gazillion Chinese drones? Can laser- and microwave-defense systems (like the Leonidas H2O) create a "shield" around ships that might make larger battleships viable again?

But enough about the nerd stuff. Battleships are back, baby!

Trump noted that the Navy, along with himself, will take the lead on the design, emphasizing he is 'a very aesthetic person.'

Wanna bet that they end up being gold?
