Trump dropped this on Truth Social last night:

Man, I feel like I've seen this somewhere.

Okay, okay, okay.

Before you think I've gone woke, Trump isn't a Dark Lord of the Sith and he's not blockading a peaceful planet that just wants to be left alone.

He's using the military to blockade a violent communist regime that has turned Venezuela into a living nightmare.

The regime has also:

Like I said, they're not the peaceful planet of Naboo or Alderaan.

Last year, communist dictator Nicolas Maduro lost the presidential election by 30 points, then simply refused to give up power because that's what commies do.

While Trump has ramped up U.S. pressure on Venezuela, sending ships and jets to the Caribbean, Western nations have been trying to curb Venezuela's growing aggression for some time. In 2023, the U.K. and U.S. sent military assets to the neighboring nation of Guyana.

Why? Well, Guyana just discovered large oil deposits off its coast and is doing well financially. Because Venezuela is extremely resource rich but has had over 1,500% inflation due to socialism, it is in dire need of cash that has real value.

(As it turns out, in order to extract natural resources, you need to have financial resources to pay people and service equipment.)

There is a real risk of Venezuela invading its neighbor to improve its own standing. Madúro even held a referendum on the matter.

Trump has taken a similar, but more aggressive approach than Biden (no surprise) by blowing up drug boats and seizing Venezuela's oil assets that are participating in trade with other sanctioned nations.

Since oil is the only thing keeping Venezuela's socialist economy afloat (and just barely, at that), such a blockade could drive the regime into total bankruptcy without firing a shot. This mirrors Trump's strategy of "peace through strength," or avoiding kinetic war by using economic pressure points.

If that doesn't work, well ... let's just hope there's no need to send in two Jedi Knights.
