The power of prayer, ladies and gentlemen.

Police in St. Louis say that a crazed, axe-wielding, would-be carjacker dropped his axe and walked away when his intended victim asked if he could pray for him.

St. Louis circuit attorneys have charged 37-year-old Romel S. Taylor, of St. Louis, with first-degree-attempted robbery in the incident. He is also charged with felony robbery in two additional unrelated cases and is currently in custody without the possibility of bond, according to court documents.

In the charging documents, police report that Taylor went up to his victim while he was exiting his car, brandished an axe as a weapon, and demanded that the man hand his keys over.

The victim boldly asked Taylor if he could say a prayer for him.

While the man was praying for his attacker, the attacker decided that he'd skip this robbery attempt and simply walked away.

However, Taylor did not walk away from crime for good.

Two days later, Taylor allegedly tried to hold up the Bank of America at 1500 St. Louis Avenue. Prosecutors on Saturday charged him in that case with first-degree robbery.

According to charging documents in the alleged bank robbery, bank staff said Taylor came into the bank and handed a teller a note demanding money while gesturing as if he had a gun. The bank handed over more than $4,000 in cash.

The man has also been charged in other cases as well, including one other carjacking.

Taylor has been taken into custody at this time.
