Why are they so angry?
Well, Trump just scrapped the climate regulations that made vehicles complex, expensive, and, well, stupid.
For years now, manufacturers have been beholden to "CAFE" fuel standards that force them to increase the average fuel efficiency of their fleets. This has forced automakers to make engines needlessly complex (ie, expensive to fix). Ironically, to avoid regulations imposed on smaller vehicles, it has also led automakers to make their trucks larger and larger, and/or abandoning entire production lines, like Ford did with its sedans.
Meanwhile, almost every man in America pines for a cheap, compact truck like these:
But they are either banned or no longer offered due to government regulation.
Meanwhile, in other nations, people readily enjoy inexpensive, reliable offerings without all the gadgets and gizmos, like the Toyota Hilux or Rangga.
Instead, these are the kinds of prices American consumers have to face as they're forced to buy hybrids or trucks packed with computers and overdone safety features:
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy explained that Trump is not entirely rolling back the CAFE standards, which were enacted into law by Congress in 1975. Instead, Trump is getting rid of the Biden-era rules that added to the law, forcing automakers to spend billions on technology that no one wants or can afford.
