Archaeologists discover Egyptian mummies with gold tongues, fingernails

I always knew that mummies in Egypt were buried with treasures, gold, silver, jewels, and all. But this is ... something else.

Archaeologists in Egypt have uncovered a bunch of mummies whose wealth was shown in another way.

More than a dozen Egyptian mummies embellished with gold tongues and fingernails have been uncovered by archaeologists.

How I picture these Egyptians in life, pre-mummification:

I mean ... what in the world? I get the golden fingernails. But TONGUES???

13 golden tongues and fingernails have been recovered from the site in Behnesa.

The 13 golden tongues and fingernails date back to the Ptolemaic era - the longest and last dynasty of ancient Egypt ...

Experts believe these ornate tongues were intended to allow the dead to speak with the god of the underworld, Osiris.

This is the first time ancient remains have ever been discovered in the Behnesa area of Egypt, and with golden tongues you can bet that they won't be the last.
