This is a wild story:

Arielle Konig says her husband proposed they go for a hike on March 24, during which he allegedly attempted to shove her off a cliff in Honolulu. The trip they took from Maui without the kids, believe it or not, was apparently meant to celebrate Arielle's birthday.

Gerhardt Konig's wife, Arielle Konig, 36, says they were hiking in Honolulu last month when he grabbed her, pushed her towards the edge of a cliff, attempted to inject her with a syringe and then bashed her head with a rock, Arielle wrote in a petition for a temporary restraining order against him.

During the struggle, she said he took a syringe from his bag and tried to inject her.

'I do not know what was in the syringe, but Gerhardt is an anesthesiologist and has access to several potentially lethal medications as part of his employment,' she said, adding that she bit his arm in an attempt to defend herself.

He appeared to calm down, but then grabbed a nearby rock and 'began bashing me repeatedly on the head with it,' she said.

So he apparently tried ... just about everything.

According to Arielle, this wasn't her first time being abused by her husband, and he has been accusing her of cheating since December and, as a result, being very controlling. So in a way, she probably expected these events to go down.

One thing's for sure, though: If you're accused of killing someone, whether or not you're guilty or innocent, you want a crackerjack lawyer representing you in court.

Take a look at the defense Gerhardt's lawyer came up with:

On Monday, Konig appeared for the brief hearing via video from the Oahu Community Correctional Center where his lawyer, Defense attorney Thomas Otake, gave a shocking reason for his client's alleged crime. ...

'There are two sides to every story, and thus far only one side has been shared,' Otake said. 'The other side to this story will be shared within the court process at the appropriate time.'

Your client's accused of attempted murder and you're telling the judge "there's two sides to every story" like:

Somehow, just somehow, I'm thinking that's not going to fly with the jury. And does this make the guy a good lawyer or a bad one? Tough question.

Here's the husband and wife before the alleged attempted murder:

Arielle was reportedly saved by two other hikers who intervened, sending her husband blundering off into the Hawaiian wilderness. He was later arrested.

A judge "signed an order saying Konig must stay away from his wife and their children." It has also been reported that Konig called his adult son from another marriage immediately after the alleged attempt at murder.

Call me crazy, but I'm not envisioning a verdict in his favor at the end of this one.

I'll leave this here too:
