Back in 2023, former commercial pilot Joseph Emerson got high on shrooms and tried to murder 84 people.
There has finally been a trial, and this brought us audio of the cockpit after Emerson attempted to cut the fuel lines and kill everyone, as well as video of Emerson in the back of the squad car after landing.
Emerson: Officer Adams?
Officer: Yeah?
Emerson: Do you believe in forgiveness? I mean, I wanna be accountable. But am I gonna be forgiven for being so stupid?
Officer: Yeah, I think so.
I don't want to say this cop was a prophet, but it seems as if the courts have largely forgiven Emerson for his 84 counts of attempted murder.
He took a plea deal, paid $5,000 in fines, and is on three years supervised release.
Here's more video and audio from the incident:
Here's ABC News 7 in San Franciso:
The judge said the case offers a cautionary tale not just about air safety but the dangers of hallucinogenic drugs.
Emerson says he never sought help, fearing it would end his career. Since the incident, he's co-founded the non-profit 'Clear Skies Ahead' to help pilots with mental health issues.
Hey, if his efforts an help re-stigmatize hallucinogenic drugs while preventing mentally unstable and suicidal pilots from killing innocent passengers then I say he's doing his part to give back to society.
