I voted for this.
Today, the Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Department of Education (ED), and the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced the immediate cancelation of approximately $400 million in federal grants and contracts to Columbia University due to the school's continued inaction in the face of persistent harassment of Jewish students. These cancelations represent the first round of action and additional cancelations are expected to follow.
MESS AROUND, FIND OUT.
The Task Force is continuing to review and coordinate across federal agencies to identify additional cancelations that could be made swiftly. DOJ, HHS, ED, and GSA are taking this action as members of the Joint Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism. Columbia University currently holds more than $5 billion in federal grant commitments.
A reminder of what Columbia University continues to allow on its campus:
[Warning: Violence]
The school has repeatedly ignored the violent words/actions of the rioters, including takeovers of campus public spaces and buildings. The acting president of the university didn't even reply to a March 3 message from the Trump admin.
'Freezing the funds is one of the tools we are using to respond to this spike in anti-Semitism. This is only the beginning,' said Leo Terrell, Senior Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights
Complete institutional takeover by leftist faculty and administrators has led those running the school to believe these anti-Israel protests are a parallel to the 1968 Columbia protests against the Vietnam War, when they are actually a combination of Marxism and Islamic Jihadism that seeks to end Western Civilization and kill all the Jews (it's a both/and goal).
'Since October 7, Jewish students have faced relentless violence, intimidation, and anti-Semitic harassment on their campuses - only to be ignored by those who are supposed to protect them,' said Secretary of Education Linda McMahon.
This, of course, has led to inevitable criticism from [checks notes] Trump voters:
It is 100% your God-given right to protest Israel.
It is also your God-given right to specifically and weirdly hate the Jews and be able to freely tell people about it. The beautiful thing about America is that you have the liberty to spout off stupid ideas.
But we're not talking about individual rights. We're talking about a private business that is ignoring and/or enabling violent people. The government isn't obliged to keep giving tax dollars to a company or school like that.
'Doing business with the Federal Government is a privilege,' said Josh Gruenbaum, FAS Commissioner and Task Force member.
Now for the Trump admin to go after the leftist slush funds known as collegiate endowments!
