A Danish art exhibit featured three piglets that were to be starved to death, but an art thief saved their lives.

An art exhibit in Copenhagen by Chilean artist Marco Evaristti featured three piglets in a makeshift cage made of shopping carts. Evaristti intended to purposefully not feed or water the pigs until they were dead, all in the name of art.

The exhibit was called "And Now You Care," and according to the artist's modern-art manifesto required to understand what the heck was happening, the piece was supposed to draw attention to the unethical treatment of pigs in Denmark.

Where 25,000 piglets die daily as a result of the conditions in which they are bred.

But things did not go his way.

An animal rights activist broke into the exhibit with the help of Evaristti's long time friend, Caspar Steffensen.

Steffensen said he could not allow the three animals to face a painful death after his 10-year-old daughter had begged him to 'make sure the piggies won't die.'

Animal Protection Denmark said they were thankful for the awareness Evaristti was bringing to the issue, but they wished he would have done it in a different way.

'We completely understand the indignation' of the artist, said Birgitte Damm, a spokesperson for the organization. 'But we do not agree that three piglets, three individual living beings, should be starved and prevented from drinking until they die from it. It is illegal and it is abuse of the animals.'

'The fact that this happens to thousands each day in the industry doesn't make it right,' she said. But she also praised the artist for asking 'the large questions about who we are as human beings or want to be, and what we are doing to fellow creatures in the name of enormous amounts of mass-produced cheap meat.'

Evarstti is known for his horribly grotesque and questionable art exhibits. In one he placed goldfish in blenders and asked onlookers to "push the button."

In another he made meatballs with fat liposuctioned from his own body and fed them to his friends.

This guy is a sicko and a nutcase, not an artist.

Luckily, now that the three little piglets aren't destined to die for the sake of art, they will still have a chance to grow up and reach their full potential:

Bacon!
