MLB commissioner says "Golden At-Bat" rule has been discussed for the 2025 season

So this is baseball now:

This idea is being floated by the commissioner of Major League Baseball. The idea that once per game a team can pick their best batter to bat in whichever spot in the lineup happens to be up.

This is what's making baseball news in the offseason.

Here was MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred during a recent podcast appearance:

There are a variety of [rule change ideas] that are being talked about out there. One of them — there was a little buzz around it at an owners' meeting — was the idea of a 'Golden At-Bat.'

He did clarify,

That rule, and things like that, are in the conversation-only stage right now.

"Conversation-only."

Sounds good to me!

I have an interesting idea though. Let's say I'm the Kansas City Royals and I have a guy like Bobby Witt who can hit with the best of ‘em. Now, let's say Bobby's on deck (meaning he bats after the current batter). Can I, as the Kansas City Royals, use this "Golden At-Bat" rule and have Bobby bat twice in a row? Cuz that's exactly how I'd use this rule, every game in which I'd never actually need to use it.

But that's just me, a layman, taking advantage of the "Golden At-Bat" rule - a real rule being considered by the real Major League Baseball.
