Minnesota Democrats blocked a bill requiring life-saving care for infants who survive abortions

On March 13, 2025, Minnesota House Democrats pulled off a nail-biter, voting 67-66 to block a bill that dared to suggest infants surviving abortions deserve a fighting chance at life.

The Born Alive Infant Protection Act (HF24), would restore a former (bipartisan) policy ensuring appropriate measures to "preserve the life and health" of born-alive infants, which was repealed by the DFL-led legislature and Gov. Tim Walz in 2023.

Needing 68 votes to pass, the measure — mandating the same medical care for these tiny survivors as any other newborn — crashed and burned under the noble banner of party unity. Truly sickening.

Oh, and they also axed a proposal (67-65) to fund support for new moms and families (Supporting Women Act) — because who needs help, right?

From LifeNews:

'Infants born after abortion should not be left to die without the care that other babies receive. Moms and families deserve our support in the midst of difficult circumstances. But DFL lawmakers have just voted against that care and against that support,' said MCCL Co-Executive Director Cathy Blaeser. 'These are extreme and inhumane positions that Minnesotans rejected in last fall's election and will continue to speak out against.'

Pro-life folks pointed to 40 documented survivors in a few states from 2016-2018, but Democrats "heroically" stood firm against life itself, presumably to protect families from the horror of forced medical intervention — or maybe just from innocent, newborn babies.

Fresh off a January Senate vote where their DNC comrades (all but one) nationwide rejected a similar federal bill, Minnesota's Dems kept the streak alive. As of March 15, 2025, the one-vote margin proves the fight's not over, but for now, these champions of "choice" (death) have ensured no infant gets care it didn't personally ask for.

... Yup.
