Nearly 15,000 nurses across New York City are now on strike as of Monday morning after no agreement was reached ahead of the deadline for contract negotiations ...
Their contract expired on December 31. The union says it wants higher pay, an increase in staff to manage patients, fully funded benefits and better workplace protections against violence for its members.
At 6 a.m. Monday, waves of nurses walked off the job -- raising their voices in the dark, banging drums and blowing whistles.
Man, if only someone in New York could help protect these nurses from violent patients...

You mean to tell me that, like teachers' unions, the nurses' union covers up for derelict and depraved employees?
Officials at a major New York City hospital accused the nurses' union of attempting to protect members who come to work drunk or stoned — as thousands of medical caregivers went on strike Monday.
The incendiary claim was leveled by Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, which accused the New York State Nurses Association of going on strike in part because its leadership opposes tougher disciplinary actions against inebriated hospital workers.
'NYSNA leadership's demand that a nurse not be terminated if found to be compromised by drugs or alcohol while on the job is another example of putting their own self-interest before patient safety,' Montefiore said in a statement provided to The Post.
I would NEVER expect a union to behave in such a manner!
