Former hair-band guitarist turned politician wrote an update to Pennsylvania’s state anthem. What do you think?

Pennsylvania Congressman Russ Diamond once played the guitar for the hair-band Bashful, and honestly they weren't bad, as far as hairbands go.

But since then, Diamond has gotten himself a haircut and become respectable.

But he apparently hasn't given up the music bug altogether. When the call came up for a new Pennsylvania state song, Diamond wrote one.

He calls it "Pennsylvania, the Keystone to My Heart".

That was not at all what I expected.

[Editor's note: Yes, it was unexpected. And it stinks!]

Diamond said,

The state song we have now … I don't think there's any bad music. It's just — is it appropriate? It should have more of a hook, an earworm that gets stuck in somebody's head. And it should be able to be adapted to different styles and formats.

He also sent around an email to colleagues that read in part:

I'm not saying my song should become THE official state song, but it is a simple and adaptable composition that would be more suitable to the task.

Wait - who the heck am I trying to kid?

My song would make an AWESOME official state song and I think it SHOULD be!!!

It's good to see he's kept his humility as a state representative.

His colleagues have been non-committal.

State Representative Eddie Day Pashinski, who apparently is also a rocker and still performing, said,

'I like his song,' Pashinski said of Diamond, but 'what I'd like to do is try to … create a competition so that people from anywhere, including professionals, could submit their entry for a new state song.'

For the record, this is the anthem these guys are all hot to replace.

As far as anthems go, that's pretty good.

[Editor's Note: Yes, it's really good and a lot better than the suggested replacement]

I don't know if our former hair metal singer stands much chance in getting his song approved.
