Delhi police use water cannons to disperse crowd protesting water restrictions during drought

Dehli, India, is experiencing a severe drought amidst a ridiculous heat wave.

Unlike New York's recently declared heat emergency, Delhi is actually experiencing record heat, with temperatures in the city reaching 126.1 degrees Fahrenheit.

That's hot.

Delhi has to import all its water (a little over 1 billion gallons per day), but due to city restrictions on water usage, people are going without. Trucks of water are being brought in to help, and people line up for hours waiting for a bucket. But it's first come, first served, and many are being turned away.

This has led to protests and rioting.

So the city did this to disperse the crowd:

Delhi police is using Water Canon on people who are protesting against the Shortage supply of Water in Delhi

I especially love the group that erupts into cheers when the cannons hit them.

Some are accusing the Delhi's government of creating an artificial shortage.

Admittedly, this is a far cry from March of this year, when Delhi's Water Minister Atishi made water services free to residents and promised water and sewage for all.

Atishi says the Indian state of Haryana (north of Delhi) is not releasing the city's share of water from the Yamuna river. The state has reduced its supply of water to Delhi by 100 million gallons of water per day.

Atishi has begun the ultimate Indian conflict-resolution tactic. She says that she will fast until Haryana releases the water, or she dies.

Hey, it worked for Gandhi.
