I wish I understood Musk's move here. Because I just don't get it.
The America Party, which so far appears to be your fiscally conservative, socially liberal, Libertarian 2.0 party, doesn't appear to have the numbers to make a big splash.
Here's CNN's Harry Enten, who has consistently proven himself as a polling expert, predicting Trump's big win even. According to his analysis, Musk's new party will win, basically, nothing.
What is the size of Elon Musk's base? I calculate it to be about 4%. Just 4%! 1, 2, 3, 4% of all voters!
What is that based made up of? Well, it's those who view Elon Musk favorably and the GOP unfavorably. We're talking about 4% of all voters out there because, it turns out, all of the voters who already like Elon Musk so much already like the GOP ... they already have a party!
In my mind there is just no base for Elon Musk's third-party in the electorate.
Maybe Harry is wrong. Maybe there are more secret Elon voters who will gladly leave the GOP.
I guess we're going to have to wait and see.
