For a company that has built most of its fortune by shipping production overseas into countries with rock-bottom standards of labor protection, this is...

...well, I guess it's not all that surprising.

Apple is ramping up iPhone shipments from India to the US as it scrambles to avoid steep new tariffs on Chinese imports under Donald Trump's latest trade crackdown ...

Trump's new tariffs slap a 54 percent levy on Chinese goods, while India faces a lower 26 percent rate.

(Trump just imposed a 104% tariff on China so that number is actually even higher now!)

Apple getting hit by Trump tariffs and fleeing to India like:

Admittedly, you can understand why they're eager to avoid those high rates. Experts say the tariffs "could add $300 to the cost of producing an iPhone 16 Pro, which already costs Apple around $550 to make."

Not sure many people are willing to shell out $2,000 for a smartphone!

The company "now plans to produce 25 million iPhones in India this year, with up to 10 million originally meant for local sale." This rate will reportedly satisfy about half of U.S. demand, which, when you calculate the amount they'll save on tariffs, will demonstrate quite a bit of savings for the company.

Meanwhile, workers back in the U.S. looking around to see how many jobs Apple is bringing back home for domestic production are like:

As for Apple's other plan to avoid tariffs, it apparently involves a fleet of jets!
